All-ceramic (esthetic treatment)

Beautiful and well-fitting ceramic treatment

All-ceramic (esthetic treatment)

Using a microscope to precisely trim teeth

◆ Using a microscope, we remove the decayed teeth while making them visible

The way teeth are filed is important to create more aesthetic and well-fitting caps. All aesthetic treatments at our clinic are performed with precision using a microscope. The treatment area is enlarged up to 20 times with a microscope, and teeth are filed and caps are attached to achieve a beautiful appearance.

To improve the level of visual examination, a microscope that can magnify the teeth is useful. There is a limit to what can be seen inside the narrow and dark mouth with the naked eye, and there are times when you have to rely on your senses and experience to see what you cannot see. This leads to inconsistencies in treatment methods.

Using a microscope, we determine the areas that need to be properly filed, and file the teeth so that it is easier to design a highly fitting cap.

◆ Check the suitability of the cap with a microscope

In order to create a beautiful crown, the way the teeth are filed is important, but adjustments before fitting are also important.

Even if something appears to fit neatly to the naked eye, when viewed under a microscope you may find that it is slightly raised or not seated properly in its intended place.

By checking the treatment area with a microscope at all times as we proceed with treatment, we aim to minimize possible errors and achieve an even more natural and beautiful finish.

◆ Uses materials with excellent aesthetics and durability

The all-ceramic treatments at our clinic use high-quality zirconia (zirconium dioxide), which is both aesthetically pleasing and durable. It is possible to reproduce a transparent color that is as close as possible to that of natural teeth. It is shiny, stain-resistant, and does not easily deteriorate over time, with little discoloration. Zirconia is highly biocompatible and is metal-free, so there is no need to worry about metal allergies. It is strong and can be used on molars. It is also effective in preventing cavities and periodontal disease after treatment, as it is resistant to plaque.

In addition, e-max is a cap made of glass ceramics produced by a system developed by Ivoclar Vivadent. It is characterized by its glass ceramics, which combines high aesthetics with strength. In particular, it has a transparency similar to natural teeth and is characterized by a high level of finish. Since it reproduces the hardness close to natural teeth, it is possible to reduce wear of the teeth that bite together. It is metal-free, so there is no need to worry about metal allergies. It is also effective in preventing cavities and periodontal disease after treatment because it is resistant to plaque.

Recently, the value of gold has been reevaluated. Although it is less aesthetic, it fits better to the teeth than ceramics, and is strong even though it is thin, so it is recommended for cases where there is little space for a cap or for those who are worried about ceramics cracking.

We will explain in detail what materials are best suited to your mouth condition.

◆ Comfortable mold taking using an intraoral scanner

In general, in the case of insurance-covered treatment, materials such as agar and alginate are used to take impressions. A tray filled with alginate (a soft material) is placed in the mouth and an impression is taken of the area that has been removed.

Alginate is soft, and if it flows down your throat before it hardens, it can often cause a gag reflex and make you feel nauseous.

Silicone impression material is often used when making ceramics, but like alginate, it is necessary to put the silicone on a tray and place it in the mouth. Silicone impression material also takes time to harden, and when removing it, the tray is difficult to remove unless force is applied.

Silicone impression material can become impossible to remove if the teeth are significantly loose due to periodontal disease or if the impression material flows into a space where a bridge or crown is placed, so careful preparation is required before taking the impression.

At our clinic, we use an intraoral scanner to take impressions of the crowns. An intraoral scanner is like a small camera that can be placed inside your mouth. While taking a normal impression takes time, including the preparation, this optical scan can be completed in just a few seconds to a few minutes.

Those who are worried about the discomfort of molding can rest assured.

In addition, unlike X-rays, intraoral scanners do not use X-rays, so they can see inside your mouth without exposing you to radiation. It is also possible to scan the entire inside of your mouth, so you can see what your teeth look like in 3D.

Risks and Side Effects

  • If a tooth fracture that was not detected during pre-treatment diagnosis is discovered during treatment, we will consider ways to preserve the tooth as much as possible, but there is a possibility that the tooth will need to be extracted in the future.

  • Even during precision root canal treatment, nickel-titanium files can break inside the root canal.

  • If the inflammation is severe, the pain may not disappear with the first treatment alone. In that case, it may be necessary to use painkillers in combination or resume the next treatment sooner.
